Description
The fig is the oldest fruit domesticated by humans, dating back almost to 10,000 BC! It is a mythical fruit which, along with dates, olives, and grapes, formed the main pillar of the diet of ancient civilizations, either fresh or dried. It is one of the healthiest fruits, a source of many vitamins (A, K, B1, B5, B6, etc.) and minerals (calcium, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, potassium, etc.), more than most other fruits. Like many fruits, figs contribute to reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancer, and chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Some of the benefits of dried figs include: excellent for the heart, regulate blood pressure, very good for pregnant women and vegans (an important source of iron), good against fatigue, stress, brittle hair and nails... (magnesium). Dried figs are very rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber (more than prunes), so they aid digestion and are especially recommended for constipation.
